Günter Halm was a Grenadier in the Richtschütze Pakzug Stabskompanie Panzergrenadier-Regiment 104 / Deutsches Afrika-Korps attached to the 21st Panzer Division during World War II, and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany. He was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Knight's Cross simultaneously on July 29, 1942.

Günter Halm survived the war, and is still alive in 2011.
